Art Direction for the QueerFrontiers x Link Maquette Competition.
To celebrate 50 years of Pride in the UK, I took part in an art competition back in June 2022 organised by Queer Frontiers x Link, the LGBTQI+ insurance association in London. Our winning submission drew heavily from nature, linking the history of the queer community and their experience to the form of a tree. The link between the natural and the humane, the modern and the historical is carried through the design of the light sculpture.
The design features three main elements:
A box, paying tribute to historic Pride milestones
A tree, representing the growth of Pride across decades
And moving lights, a symbol that Pride is still in motion
The maquette was brought to life by working alongside multimedia 3D artist Aphra Shemza.
I designed a softcover book to go alongside the maquette, showcasing stunning photographs, compelling illustrations, and powerful histories to help contextualise the key dates on the maquette.
